2 Hopewell Bistro Wedding – Jackie & Rick
I met Jackie & Rick over Skype this past summer and instantly felt a connection to them. They are probably two of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with which makes them such a power couple together. We originally planned for a September 2016 wedding but a few months ago I received an email from Jackie telling me she had switched her date to this December because she couldn’t wait to get married to the love of her life.
Jackie and Rick met while Jackie was working as the Volunteer Coordinator at the New London Homeless Hospitality Center for the AmeriCorps in New London Connecticut. Rick was the pick up and delivery driver for the center’s thrift store and also helped many of the centers clients move into their new housing. As Jackie pulled into work one day she saw for the first time the man who would become her future husband. For 7 months, Jackie admired the handsome delivery driver from a far until one day Rick came into the center to inquire about volunteering. It was then fate decided to intervene. The office directed him straight to Jackie who set him up to train at an overnight shift at the shelter. Right before his first shift, Jackie’s boss called her and informed her she couldn’t make in in that night and asked Jackie if she could train Rick instead. Jackie happily agreed and they hit it off immediately – they both enjoyed the same TV shows such as The Office and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, they shared a love for coffee, and had the same sense of humor. As they got to know each other more, she realized Rick was equally as kind as he was handsome. One night after her shift, Rick asked Jackie to meet him for coffee. As they strolled the New London pier Rick leaned over and kissed Jackie to which she replied “Am I your girlfriend now?” and he confidently said, “Yeah, I’d like that”. Fast forward to a trip to DC, where Rick got down on one knee & proposed to Jackie with a beautiful ring in front of the Lincoln Memorial. She happily agreed.
They decided they wanted a small wedding – intimate and surrounded by people whom they loved. Jackie wore a beautiful lace sweet heart strapless dress with a crystal ribbon for accent. She had beautiful bright blue shoes and blue jewelry. On the bottom of her shoes she had her wedding date and new last name. Her bridesmaids wore dark blue infinity dresses which are fantastic and can be reused for any occasion. Her mother made a scrumptious basket filled with fruits, yogurts, KIND bard and sparkling water for the girls to munch on as they got ready. I couldn’t help but feel like one of the girls on Jackie’s day. Everyone was so kind and helpful – it felt like I was meeting up with old friends and not meeting her and her bridesmaids for the first time.
2 Hopewell Bistro is known for its amazing food and has held several wedding’s in the past. The tables were decorated with winter berries, candles, and pinecones to go along with Jackie’s winter theme. They had the menu of items to choose from custom printed for their guests as well as a “Mad Lib” activity for the guests to filled out for Jackie & Rick to read later. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, Jackie and Rick decided to get a bunch of delicious bit sized cupcakes from NoRa Cupcakes. The flavors ranged from Grasshopper, to a peanut butter and bacon Elvis cupcake, to a strawberry nutella cupake. They also had one big cupcake cake for them to cut which was complete with a heart made out of bacon (Yum!).
Jackie & Rick decided not to see each other before the ceremony but instead wanted to pray together. They found a wall at the bistro where they could hold hands and share a pray before committing themselves fully to each other. The ceremony was held in a small room attached to the Bistro where friends and family gathered to watch them say “I Do”. After the ceremony, we were lucky enough to be able to go outside for some formal pictures as New England graced us with semi warm weather. After the reception – we wanted to take a few more photos together so we took a short drive up the road and found a orchard with an epic view of the Connecticut valley just in time for sunset!
Jackie & Rick – I am so happy and thankful to have been able to capture your wedding. You were both so kind and accommodating – I wish you both nothing but the best and hope you have a marvelous time traveling the New England Coast for your honeymoon!
