Dreams Riviera Maya Cancun Mexico Destination Wedding// A+S
I was in Hawaii when I leapt out of my chair in excitement because Andrea had sent me an email asking if I would be interested in shooting her destination wedding in Mexico. I absolutely love Mexico – the people, the culture, the landscape, and least we not forget the Tacos & Margaritas.
Cancun is also a very special place to Shaun & Andrea as it is where they vacation every year together. One night Shaun asked Andrea if she wanted to watch the sunrise the next morning and she agreed. She thought since she was just going to watch the sunrise and go back to bed, she didn’t both “getting ready” and just threw on a dress and they headed out. This was a slight problem for Shaun since he accounted she would need time to get ready so he quickly suggested they go get coffee to stall for a bit.
They started walking to the beach and saw a guard standing at the stairs that provided access to the beach. Andrea thought that the guard was going to tell them to go back to their room since they usually don’t allow guests on the beach before sunrise. Instead this particular guard flashed the light on the sand and told them to be careful where they walked because he was waiting for a couple to come because they were going to get engaged. Andrea spotted in the sand a big heart and inside it said MARRY ME with roses on it. She thought “How sweet was that for that couple” As she turned to walk around it, she looked back and Shaun was on one knee. She instantly said “are you kidding me?!” because she thought she was about to ruin a surprise for another couple. Shaun then stayed there and said to her “No, I’m not joking… will you??” Andrea was in shock for a minute and then started crying and gave him a hug. He then said “so does that mean yes?”…and she flash him a huge smile and said “yes!” And all of this happened as the sun was rising.
I asked Andrea what her favorite characteristic about Shaun is and she said, “He is literally my own personal super hero. He does everything he can to protect me and make me happy or cheer me up. The love he has for me is undeniable.”
On the day of their wedding, they were surrounded by their closest family and friends. They said “I do” steps away from the same ocean Shaun asked Andrea to marry him at. Me and my assistant Nicole had so much fun exploring the resort during the day and at night creating some epic images.
Shaun and Andrea chose me to be their wedding photographer because they wanted someone who could capture some out of the box images – so when I suggested that they do an underwater session in one of Cancun’s beautiful crystal clear cenotes – they were totally on board. I was stoked because I had never done an underwater shoot before and its been something I had wanted to do for ever!
Here are my favorite images from their ceremony in Mexico and our trash the dress cenote shoot <3
