The Inn on Peak’s Island Wedding // Portland Maine
When I met Katie we bonded over a mutual love of tacos accompanied with a margarita (or 3) and I knew from there we would get along just fabulously from there. I was so stoked when she chose me to photograph her September wedding at one of my favorite venues – The Inn on Peak’s Island which is just a quick ferry ride from historic downtown Portland Maine.
More importantly let’s talk about how back in 2014 Katie met the love of her life, Zack in San Diego, where Katie was living and Zak was traveling on business from Las Vegas.
When Katie met Zak, he was wearing a suit in southern California. Katie thought, who is this gangster in a sports coat? Yet, Zak got her number that night. The two kept in touch but it wasn’t until business brought Zak back to San Diego over the 4th of July that the two had their first date. They connected instantly and soon after began traveling between San Diego and Las Vegas weekly.
Eight months in, Zak got a job opportunity that would take him back to his home in Boston and with a leap of faith, Katie followed.
When it came for Zak to propose, he took Katie to her favorite place in New England – Maine. This time to Cape Elizabeth. Coastal Maine reminded Katie of the west coast, plus it’s the perfect place to take their adorable dog, Russel,l for walks and swims along the beach. They arrived at the house for the weekend & immediately headed to the beach to watch the sunset with a glass of wine in hand after the drive up from Boston. Zak pulled Katie in for a kiss and started the sentence with, “I think you know why I brought you here…” He got down on one knee, opened the ring box, and asked Katie to be his wife. To which she of course said “Yes!”
The surprises continued when the next day, Katie’s best friend surprised her from California, followed by the rest of their closest friends from Boston to celebrate the rest of the weekend at the house Zak rented in Cape Elizabeth. Katie describes it as “It was the best day of my life, all of our friends together, drinking beers and playing yard games while over looking the Maine coast.”
With their mutual love of Maine, there was no question that when it came time to start planning their wedding, they would look for something that captured all of their favorite memories from Maine to share with their closest family and friends.
Below are some of my favorite images from their wedding day – I was stoked that the wind wasn’t too strong so I could get a couple of drone shots in and we had a killer sunset 😉
