I always love finding the connections and synchronicities throughout life – in 2018 I photographed Lauren & Tyler’s wedding at Tupper Manor and 2 years later while googling wedding venues Luke stumbled across my site and took it as a sign to reach out to have me photograph his wedding to his partner of 8 years, Joe.
They wanted their wedding at the Barn at Gibbett Hill to feel like an upscale Hollywood after party with good food and cocktails! They also asked me to create some images with their family and wedding party that felt like the Kardashian Christmas Card – you can see where I told everyone not to smile and then the ones after with genuine laughter coming out of that pose. I loved the velvet jackets Joe and Luke chose to wear that they also had their wedding dates and initials sewed inside of.
During their ceremony, there was not one dry eye in the room. You could feel the love these two have for each other radiate the space and feel the joy their friends and family had for them as they watched them recite their vows to one another. I really loved that they tied in some Jewish elements to their ceremony and broke a glass before they kissed and walked down the aisle as husband and husband.
I still can hear the roar of their guests as they entered the reception for their first dance and followed that with their mother/son dances. After speeches & dinner, we went outside to capture some night portraits before heading back inside to a dance floor that was just absolute FIRE!
Their advice to anyone currently planning a wedding is:
Do what you want
Don’t overspend on dessert
Don’t do things because “its the norm” make your own rules
Luke and Joe – I am so grateful to both of you for having me document your day. You both know so many talented people and just having you circle back years later to me really means the world to me!
